Robert H. Robelia, age 83, of Pepin, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Oakview Care Center in Durand. He was born December 17, 1928 in Waterville Township of Pepin County, the son of George and Laura (Harmon) Robelia. He grew up in the Arkansaw/Pepin area. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he and his infantry mates were involved in heavy and extensive fighting on the front lines. He fought in the vicious Battle of Old Baldy, being one of only six men in the 1st Cavalry Able Company to survive. After his discharge he returned to the Pepin area. He then worked at Armour Meatpacking in South St. Paul. He married Helen Kreye of Wabasha October 26, 1957 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. The couple moved from St. Paul to Goat Back Hill in rural Pepin in 1960 when they purchased a farm there. Bob was a dairy farmer from 1961 until 1989 when the couple moved to Pepin. He then worked for the Altura Turkey Plant in Altura, MN for 10 years, retiring in 1999.
Bob was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. He was also a member of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 of Wabasha and the Plum City American Legion Post #365. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and woodworking. He was known as a jack-of-all trade’s, proficient in electrical, plumbing and building. He built most of the buildings on his farm.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Robelia, Pepin, WI; sons and daughter-in-law, George Robelia, Pepin, WI, Thomas Robelia and Melissa Loechler, Wabasha, MN; daughters and son-in-law, Cindy Hase (Lyall Borth), Woodville, WI, Roberta and Ralph Lebeter, Altoona, WI; six grandchildren, Tatiana and Midoree Robelia, Bailey Nordby, Zachary Borth, Courtnee and Summerlynn Lebeter; two great-grandchildren, Brighton and Sean Nordby; brother, Aloys Robelia, Durand, WI; sister, Margaret Kreye, Durand,, WI; sister-in-law, Phyllis Robelia, Menomonie, WI; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leo and Francis Robelia and two sisters, Pauline and Katherine Robelia.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Wabasha VFW and American Legion Posts. Casket bearers will be Tatiana Robelia, Zachary Borth, Ronald Robelia, Dr. Paul Robelia, Jon Juliot and Terry Jahnke. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday from 4-8pm where there will be a prayer service at 6:30pm and at the church on Friday one hour before the service.
