Archie I. Wolfe

Archie Irvin Wolfe, age 86, of Wabasha, passed away on January 14, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Archie was born on February 4, 1932 in Glasgow Township of Wabasha County, the son of Henry and Lavina (Meyer) Wolfe.  He grew up on the family farm in Glasgow Township.  In 1944, the family moved to a farm in Plainview and Archie began farming with his family.  The family moved to Wabasha in 1947 and purchased a farm and he continued to farm with his parents.  On September 8, 1953 he married Kay Joan Gillmore at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha and together had four daughters.  In 1954 he began working at Big Jo Flour full time and continued farming the family farm for the next 18 years. Archie & Kay purchased and moved to the family farm in 1974 and he continued to farm and work at Big Jo Flour until his retirement in 1988.  He spent the remainder of his working years farming in Wabasha.

 

Archie is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Candice and Michael Kasper, Eagan, MN, Brenda and Terry Saturday, Sandy Springs, GA, Rebecca Smith, Pine Island, MN, and Gail Yost, Bloomington, MN; eight grandchildren, Caitlin Kasper Haynes, Erin Kasper Tigges, Liza Saturday Johns, Tessa Saturday, Riley and  Callie Smith, Molly and Matthew Yost; five great –grandchildren, Clayton, Michael and Maria Haynes, Caleb and Noah Tigges; two sisters, Lucille Schurhammer, Kellogg, MN and Darlene Wolfe, Wabasha, MN; nieces, Sharon Durgin, Linda Zarling, and Cindy Stamschror; nephew, Jim Schurhammer; great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Kay, and his sister, Juliann Klasssen.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed jumping on the trampoline and sledding with his grandchildren or giving them rides on the snowmobile and four-wheeler.  With an insatiable sweet tooth; he often over indulged his grandchildren with treats.  Archie’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him the greatest joy and humor in his life.  Additionally, he loved all animals, especially his black poodle and buddy, Jack. Archie was a car guy in many ways and enjoyed taking long drives on country roads. He was a strong-willed German man with an enormous work ethic and ‘can do’ attitude when it came to repairs of any kind. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Donald Schmitz and the Reverend Monsignor Robert Meyer officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Felix Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 4-7pm.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30pm.  Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center Recreational Department, 626 Shields Ave., Wabasha, MN 55981 or to St. Felix Catholic School, 130 3rd St. E., Wabasha, MN  55981.
