Bernice Cooks Dean, affectionately known as “Honey” was born in Phillip, MS on January 26, 1931. She was one of four children born to the union of Cal and Hattie Cooks who preceded her in death.
Bernice accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a long-time faithful member of Maryland Ave Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hurford Norwood. She was a part of the Sisterhood Society at her church and enjoyed being a part of the Sunday School Adult class every Sunday.
She was united in Holy matrimony on December 27, 1978 to William Lee Dean who preceded her in death.
Bernice had one daughter Velma Cooks-Houston who preceded her in death, and they were very close.
Bernice leaves to cherish fond memories of her husband William Dean who preceded her in death, one beautiful daughter who preceded her in death, four beautiful grandchildren: William (Chenise) Houston, Zumbrota, MN; Verlina Houston, Kenyon, MN; Roderick (Jennifer) Houston, Atlanta, GA; and Valerie Houston, Maple Grove, MN; Nine great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.
Bernice lived a full life. She resided on the south side of Chicago independently until age 84. She was educated in the Chicago Public School system. Bernice was a hard worker and was committed retail worker.
At the Age of 84, Bernice relocated with her Oldest Grand Daughter, Verlina Houston, who became her dedicated care giver and was committed to Bernice living a healthy and full life.
Funeral services for Bernice were held Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha. Interment was at Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha, MN.
