Gladys Johnson, age 95, of Kellogg, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. She was born February 9, 1922 in Litchville, ND, the daughter of John and Betsy Wenneson. She married Vernon Johnson February 20, 1943 in St. Paul. Following his years of military service the couple moved to Kellogg. Vernon died September 15, 1990. Gladys was a homemaker and she worked as a nursing assistant at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Wabasha for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church. She was also a life member of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 Auxiliary in Wabasha, a 50 year member of the Kellogg American Legion Post #546 Auxiliary and a past member of Royal Neighbors. Gladys loved playing cards and bingo and cooking for her family. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan also. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Gladys is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Lamey, Kellogg, MN, Carol and John Marx, Wabasha, MN, Dave (Jeannine) Flies, Eyota, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Lorie Johnson, Wabasha, MN, John and Kathy Johnson, Plainview, MN; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, daughter, Marlys Flies, four grandchildren, Brian Lamey, Amy Marx, Anne Marie Flies and Ruth Ann Flies, her parents, John and Betsy Wenneson and 11 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00am at Kellogg United Methodist Church with the Reverend Cheryl Nyman officiating. Interment will be at Greenfield Cemetery in Kellogg. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Herman and Jim Gander and Everett and Shorty Johnson. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Monday from 4-8pm and at the church on Tuesday one hour before the service. The family prefers memorials.
