Joseph M. Wallerich

Joseph M. Wallerich, age 92, of rural Wabasha, died March 31, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.  He was born March 1, 1926 in Wabasha, the son of Frank and Mary (Clemens) Wallerich of Reads Landing.  Joe was a lifelong farmer on the Wallerich family farm on Pepin Hill.  He married Mary Evers April 22, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Conception, rural Kellogg.

 He was a lifelong member of St. Felix Catholic Church and a long time member of St. Joseph’s Society of Catholic United Financial.  He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus.  He loved driving his tractors and riding his four-wheeler.  He enjoyed deer hunting, loving his animals, especially his dogs, and watching western movies.  He especially loved to tease his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His vacation time was spent travelling about visiting his many relatives.

 Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Wallerich, Wabasha, MN; children and spouses, Margery Wallerich, Winona, MN, Jon (Linda) Wallerich, Wabasha, MN, Joyce Ireland, Wabasha, MN, Marla (Todd) Hubbard, Lake City, MN, Jean (Joe) Feils, Kellogg, MN, Jerry (Cori) Wallerich, Wabasha, MN, Mark Wallerich (Tina Montgomery), Lake City, MN; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Lou Rutz, Lake City, MN; brothers, Robert Wallerich, Plainview, MN, Norbert (Colleen) Wallerich, Rochester, MN; nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews and his beloved dog, Duke.  He is also survived by brother-in-law, Michael Evers, Minneapolis, MN and sisters-in-law, Beverly Evers, Theilman, MN and Dorothy Klees, Rochester, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Wallerich, granddaughter, Christine Wallerich, brother and sisters-in-law, Francis and Mary Pat Wallerich, and Orlene Wallerich and brothers-in-law, Leon Rutz and Ted Evers.

 A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:30am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Adam McMillan and Deacon John Hust officiating.  Interment will be at St. Felix Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at Abbott Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 8pm and at the church one hour before the Mass.
