Clara Mae Leichtnam, age 81, of Plainview, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Marys Campus in Rochester. She was born January 14, 1936 in Spring Valley Township of Fillmore County, the daughter of Oscar and Alma (Mielke) Kraling. She married Remigius Leichtnam November 14, 1951 in Spring Valley. The couple farmed in Chester, Iowa then moved to Rochester. In 1963 they moved to Waltham. There he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Clara was a homemaker. They moved to Plainview in 2003. Mr. Leichtnam died June 16, 2009.
She enjoyed growing flowers in her large gardens. She also liked watching the birds and squirrels. She and her husband loved attending tractor and train shows. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clara is survived by son, Kenneth Leichtnam, Austin, MN; daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Terry Chance, Waltham, MN, Sherry and Don Mehren, Minnesota City, MN, Arlene Rosalack-Fitting, Plainview, MN; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marge and Edward Manahan, Rochester, MN, Helen and George Strop, Rochester, MN, Marilyn and Vern Strop, Barron, WI; sister-in-law, Lorraine Kraling, Rochester, MN; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Remigius, grandson, Jeremiah, brothers, Kenneth and Wendell Kraling and sisters, Lillian McNee, Constance Kraling and Mildred Merkel.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11:00am at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha with the Reverend James Clausen officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha.
