Harold Schierts, known to his friends as ‘Hardy’, died January 1, 2018 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse at the age of 75 years. He was the oldest child of Harold and Marion (Healy) Schierts. He was employed at IBM in Rochester for 30 years.
A native of Wabasha, Hardy was an active citizen in his community. He served as a city councilman from 1986-1991. He also served on the Wabasha Zoning Board and he was a charter officer of the Wabasha-Kellogg Dollars for Scholars program. He was a member of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and in his earlier years he served as a Cub Scout leader. He was a member of the Greenwood Prairie Classic Iron Club. Hardy was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church.
He had a deep knowledge of the history of Wabasha and the genealogy of his family and others. His greatest joy was spending time with his four grandchildren.
Hardy will lovingly be remembered by his wife (and get-away driver) of 51 years, Judith, and his two children, Amy (Scott) and Hal (Lori). Hardy will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Zoe, Isabella, Grace, and Marielle, and his siblings, Carol (Roland) Wood, Mary Lou (Lee) Severson, Polly (Gary) Brayton, Bill (Julie) Schierts and Susan Schierts; sister-in-law, Judy Siebenaler, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, John.
A memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1pm at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Adam McMillan officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery at Conception, rural Kellogg. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 11am until the time of service. Memorials are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota, State Veterans Service Building, Floor 3, 20 West 12th St., St. Paul, MN 55155.
