Richard C. “Dick” Dahl, age 82, of Wabasha, formerly of Rochester, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Marys Campus in Rochester. He was born February 10, 1935 in Austin, the son of Arnold and Emma (Yauger) Dahl. Dick was a graduate of Austin High School and a 1957 graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul. He married Patricia Bosshart June 8, 1957 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He worked 32 years for IBM in Rochester and retired in 1992. He and Pat and their family had a cabin for over 20 years on Sand Prairie, rural Wabasha and would visit there often while the family lived in Rochester. After retiring they built their permanent home there.
Dick was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha. He was a past member of the Minnesota National Guard and was called to active duty during the Alaskan earthquake of 1964. For 25 years he was a member of the Rochester Area Officials Association refereeing high school football and basketball and junior college football games throughout southeastern Minnesota. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop, sailing and spending time on the river with his family. He was meticulous in everything he did and was involved with. Dick’s greatest joy was spending time with his six grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Dahl, Wabasha, MN; children and spouses, Robert “Bob” and Kim Dahl, Maple Grove, MN, Sue and Randy Christensen, Rochester, MN, Don Dahl, Winona, MN; six grandchildren, Dylan, Tanner, Madison and Logan Dahl and Jack and Emma Christensen; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and MaryJo Dahl, Cass Lake, MN; sister and brother-in-law, Bev and Joe Carlisano, Burnsville, MN; and Pat’s family, sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ben Bednar, Austin, MN; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Audrey Bosshart, Austin, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Emma Dahl and nephew, Joe Carlisano, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha with the Reverend David Knox officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Austin. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from noon until the time of service. The family prefers memorials to Faith Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
